The AMH Online is an independent, evidence-based Australian drug guide. It is updated throughout the year with major updates each January and July. AMH provides comparative drug information, so you can compare drugs and make informed choices when prescribing drugs. This AMH also includes the AMH: Aged Care Companion and AMH: Children's Dosing Companion.

You can browse by

  • Chapter - which divides up into different areas of medicine
  • Drugs - A-Z of drugs within the AMH
  • Interactions - advice about interactions between two drugs 
  • Therapeutics - A-Z of different therapeutic areas
  • Calculators - calculators for Adult estimated creatinine clearance, Adult ideal body weight, and Body surface area.

Or Search directly in the Search field, the search bar is on the top of the page.

On the left hand side of the Home page, there are links to Guides, Appendices, Key changes, an About us page, Contact details, and Resources on how to use the AMH.

Browsing AMH

AMH has alphabetical lists for Drugs, Brands, Interactions and Therapeutics.

These can be accessed via:

  • The menu bar at the top of the page on desktop computers and tablets
  • The home page or A-Z icon in the menu bar on smartphones.

Searching by drug

This list includes all monographs in AMH. Where a drug has more than one monograph, the main use discussed in the monograph is included in brackets. For example:

  • Ciprofloxacin provides information on systematic use of the drug
  • Ciprofloxacin (ear) provides specific information on topical application to ears

Searching by brand

This list includes all the brand names in AMH. Where a brand is listed in more than one monograph, the name of the chapter is included in brackets.

Searching Therapeutics

Includes a list of all the main therapeutic topics. It is recommended to use the search function to find other conditions.


Searching AMH

In AMH, the search field is available on every page. Simply type the term you are looking for in the search field; matching terms will be displayed in a drop-down list. Either select a term or type out the full term, then press Enter or click Go.

Please note that Boolean searching (AND, OR, NOT) are not supported in AMH.

Phrase searching can be done by enclosing in double quotation marks (" ").

Search terms remain in the search field after searching.

The results default to monographs; you can also choose to view results for classes interactions, therapeutic information, or other (tables, guides, appendices).

The AMH Aged Care Companion

Focuses on conditions, considerations and content more relevant and targeted to older people and those in aged care settings.

You can Browse by:

  • Chapter - different areas of medical care ie. immunisation.
  • Tables - Direct link to information tables from the ACC.
  • Guides - Guidelines for specific areas of Deprescribing, Prescribing in Renal Impairment and Using Medicines in Older People.
  • Appendices - Supplementary information for medicine management in older people
  • Calculator - Adult estimated creatinine clearance calculator

AMH Children's Dosing Companion

This information specifies issues relating to medicines in children, providing a national paediatric information resource to support evidence-based prescribing.

Browse by:

  • Drugs - A-Z of drug information in a paediatric context.
  • Guides - Guidelines for paediatric specific issues in medicine management and prescription
  • Appendices - Supplementary information 
  • Calculator - Body Surface Area calculator
