Australian Associations

• Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (AIMS)
  • The peak professional body representing medical and clinical scientists within Australia. AIMS is also the assessing authority for medical laboratory scientists, medical laboratory technicians, and pathology collectors/phlebotomists. 
• Histology Group of Victoria & Tasmania (HGVT)
  • Founded by senior histology scientists representing all the major public hospitals and private pathology providers within Victoria, it has since expanded to include professionals within Tasmania. 
• Know Pathology Know Healthcare - Pathology Awareness Australia
  • A not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting pathology within Australia. 
• National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC)
  • The NPAAC advises the Commonwealth, state and territory health ministers on matters relating to the accreditation of pathology laboratories. NPAAC plays a key role in ensuring the quality of Australian pathology services and is responsible for the development and maintenance of standards and guidelines for pathology practices.
• Public Pathology Australia 
  • The national peak body for public pathology. Its members are the major government owned and operated pathology services in each State and Territory. 
• Standards for Pathology Informatics in Australia (SPIA) 
  • The SPIA are endorsed and published by The Royal College of Pathologists Australasia (RCPA). The SPIA document describes the standards and guidelines around information models, terminology, units and their rendering related to requesting and reporting pathology in Australia.
• The Australian Society for Microbiology (ASM)
  • A not-for-profit incorporated professional society for microbiologists. The ASM publishes the Microbiology Australia journal. 
• The Royal College of Pathologists Australasia (RCPA)
  • The leading organisation representing pathologists and senior scientists in Australasia. Its mission is to train and support pathologists and to improve the use of pathology testing to achieve better healthcare. The RCPA also publishes a monthly magazine, Pathway.

• MedPix - The National Library of Medicine 
  • A free open-access online database of medical images, teaching cases, and clinical topics, integrating images and textual metadata including over 12,000 patient case scenarios, 9,000 topics, and nearly 59,000 images.
• The Visible Human Project - The National Library of Medicine
  • A public-domain library of cross-sectional cryosection, CT, and MRI images obtained from one male cadaver and one female cadaver. 

Monash Health Library provides educational resources, group training, webinars and individual consultations on evidence based practice including guidance on literature searching, appraising and managing search results.
