Codes of Ethics for Nurses & Midwives

The international codes below have been adopted by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board.


National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC)

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works with National Boards for each health profession to publish codes of conduct. Below are link to allied health codes of conduct.


Shared Code of Conduct

The Shared Code of Conduct applies to the following health practitioners:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners
  • chiropractors
  • dental practitioners
  • medical radiation practitioners
  • occupational therapists
  • optometrists
  • osteopaths
  • paramedics
  • pharmacists
  • physiotherapists
  • podiatrists and podiatric surgeons

Pharmacy: Pharmacy Board - Code of conduct

Psychology: Australian Psychological Society - Code of Ethics (2007) - Note that the Psychology Board of Australia is developing a code of conduct for psychologists.
