Browzine is a new electronic bookshelf for journals, just implemented. It provides a browse-able e-shelf by subject or keyword, full text articles and the ability to set up your own account to create a personal bookshelf, save and share articles.

A new library guide for managers is now online – providing tips and resources on different aspects of teamwork, communication, managing & leading. Depending on your mood, timeframe, learning style, there are short/long form materials for listening, watching and reading:

BMJ Best Practice's new feature “Comorbidities” is now live. Add comorbidities to an acute condition for an updated treatment plan. This tool covers 10 common, high-priority comorbidities that have the greatest potential for harm. Also see our video on setting up the BMJ mobile app.

The global spread of COVID-19 has pushed new approaches to consolidating evidence such as https://covid-nma.com - a living map of studies that collects, appraises and synthesises new evidence and identifies gaps for future research using visualisation. Another resource for researchers is the U.S. CDC Stephen B. Thacker Library’s downloadable database of research articles and grey literature, updated weekly. Cochrane and Prospero have also responded to the proliferation of COVID-19 studies by creating dedicated pages about reviews in development or published.

Selected COVID-19 articles:

  • A new Cochrane rapid review has found implementing quarantine early with other prevention management measures such as social distancing is essential for ensuring effectiveness. Studies examined on SARS and MERS were consistent with findings on COVID19.
  • An editorial from AJPH considers ethical issues and risks to privacy posed by the confluence of new technologies and the current health pandemic.
  • A compendium answering 150 questions on COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2 is an evidence based reference work over 30+ pages which answers 150 key questions about COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2.
  • NHS leader Sir David Dalton's reflection on the current pandemic advocates for kind, compassionate leadership, promising sweetness "out of the strong" and for some: "the one thing which cannot be commanded - the discretionary effort, the extra contribution".

Updated therapeutic guidelines for toxicology and toxinology have been added to eTG Complete providing concise information on poisonings, toxic agents and evenomings. Instructions on how to download eTG to your smart phone are available from our website.

Australia's Health 2020 report has been released by the Australian Institute of Health & Welfare. Key findings include 11.5 million hospitalisations in 2018–19 - 6.9 million in public hospitals 4.6 million in private hospitals. Heart disease is the single leading cause of death in Australia.

A new NHMRC guide on the publication and dissemination of research has been published. This guide applies to research conducted in Australian institutions and should be used in conjunction with responsibility 7 in the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research.

Embase is a key database for medical research available from our electronic resources page. Embase is an extensive biomedical and pharmacological resource with particular emphasis on European publications.

Our collection includes a range of titles by distinguished neurologist and bestselling author Oliver Sacks. Sack's books provide a reflective and in-depth approach to medical narrative and case histories.
