Library News

Take our Library survey in 60 seconds – or less! All questions are optional. Whether you are a regular Library user or only use Library tools such as UpToDate, we want to hear from you. Your feedback helps us to continuously improve.

Recordings of selected Library webinars are now available on Latte, giving you 24/7 access to training at the most convenient time for you. Webinars include Visual Design Skills for Researchers (25 mins) and Advanced Literature Searching (45 mins). Prefer to attend live? Browse our calendar.

If you are embarking on new research or stuck on statistical analysis for a current project, check our Research Toolkit. Two new guides -- Research & Grant Proposals and Statistics for Research -- offer explanatory articles, online learning modules, eBooks, software user guides, and more.

Professor John Murtagh will explain the Murtagh diagnostic strategy model and discuss tips for the ‘good’ doctor during a free 1-hour webinar at 2pm this Thursday, 25th August -- register here to attend or receive the recording.

Congratulations to Amy Catlin from the Moorabbin allied health team! Amy won our Guess the Number of Print Books competition with her guess of 7,231. We have 7,573 print books across our 4 libraries; however, this is just 2.7% of our total collection. We prioritise eBooks so that you can access them from anywhere in the moment you need it.

COVID-19

This month the National COVID-19 Clinical Evidence Taskforce published a number of paediatric updates, such as new flowcharts for in-hospital care. Still on paediatrics, a recent BMJ feature summarises what we know about vaccines in under 5s. For access to more of the latest information on COVID-19, visit the yellow quick links box in our COVID-19 resource guide. Our Infection Prevention guide has a similar yellow box for news on monkeypox.

The Auditor-General Report on the national COVID-19 vaccine rollout found that it was “partly effective” – with issues such as an underestimation of “the complexity of administering in-reach services to the aged care and disability sectors” – and recommends a more comprehensive review. Meanwhile, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will overhaul its structure and systems following a review of its own COVID-19 response.
